Vishing

Vishing is a type of phishing, but involves phone calls rather than emails. Scammers using vishing will attempt to get bank, school, or work login information and much more.

Scammers can use voice changing softwares to make themselves sound different over the phone, sometimes even using the voices of people you know and trust. They also using a tactic called social engineering, acting in ways to emotionally manipulate you.

Here’s some ways to keep yourself safe from vishing attempts:

1.) avoid answering unknown numbers (but remember: caller ID’s can be altered).
2.) be aware of social engineering tactics, such as false urgency.
3.) if they are pretending to be a specific person, try to contact them through other means. Face-to-face is best.
